Google’s Gemini App Gets Exciting New Update With Lockscreen Widgets and Direct Control Center Access

It’s only been a week since we saw Android maker Google redesign its homescreen. This is why the Gemini app on iPhones is getting updates with lockscreen widgets and direct access to the phone’s Control Center, as spotted by 9to5G.

The latest iPhone platform is offering six circular widgets on the homescreen and we’re providing you with details on what to expect below.

For starters, there’s a new Type Prompt. When a user is stuck on a query, they can type anything immediately. Then Talk Live enables users to talk through things easily or simply brainstorm out loud via Gemini.

Open mic is designed to swiftly open the microphone to put in alerts about important calendar invites, while Use Camera allows users to take images of what’s in front of them. They can even ask Gemini to explain what’s in front of them.

Share Image allows users to select a picture to get more data about them, start new chats, and even produce new art. Lastly, users have a Share File feature to share data behind any question.

The main shortcut opens the platform and the keyboard enables users to begin typing prompts while they can launch Gemini Live through direct means instead of it being a two-step endeavor. Open Mic allows users to add prompts through voice feature that most would do via text. The other one will launch the camera inside the app. The last two bring up the picture picker or file picker via direct means.

Users get the chance to fix any six shortcuts on the lockscreen as corner buttons. Through the Control Center, users can immediately access it without the need to enter the home page or unlock the screen. All the shortcuts are designed to launch the Gemini AI chatbot quickly, and therefore it was a change that was a long time coming, considering the growing competition.

The latest version of the Gemini app is rolling out to users today through Apple’s App Store. As per the release notes seen, they have highlighted the latest launches as one for sharing text, pictures, and links through any platform to Gemini. Secondly, Deep Research is up for grabs on Gemini Advanced mode. The company also added some improvements to the UI and major bug fixes.
